Dose with Ma

This year, my mom received the best Mother’s Day present in the world. It was me. Lauri and I, along with my dad and brother, were at the Dose Market Sunday morning for some well-mannered frivolity and money-spending.

So, with Stephanie busy for Mother’s Day, and those other lovely ladies who write for this blog (their names escape me) otherwise preoccupied, I decided to take matters into my own hands. By “my own hands” you understand that I mean my shady Android-phone-camera-taking-abilities. Here is a brief glimpse into the clothes of the men at Dose Market.

One of the recurring themes I noticed as I walked through the aisles of Dose was a penchant for hats. Particularly, those ascot/1920’s newsboy looking hats. In fact I saw two total strangers with basically the exact same outfit; grey cap, grey cardigan, wool tie, etc.

The man in the center runs a local bike factory/coffee shop called Heritage on Lincoln and Wellington. The men on the left and right are currently  unaware that these pictures exist.

I am entirely confident that I could not pull off a single aspect of that outfit. As I strolled around, I noticed a familiar face; Chicago Bulls basketball player Kyle Korver! How lucky was I to see one of my favorite Chicago ballplayers! In the same Dose Market as I! And look, he’s selling v-necks with a couple women....wait, what? Ohhhh, it’s his brother Klayton Korver.

Seer Outfitters is the company Korver works for. The shirt says “Better Together”, a tagline for one of Seer’s ongoing campaigns to help children. Plus, their work helps kids in the States, which is in a way refreshing to see.

Korver took the time to chat with me (meaning I aggressively got his attention). Besides the fact that he knew All Worn Out’s very own Steph G (SHE’S FAMOUS) he also taught me some valuable lessons. Omaha is statistically one of the hardest places for a black youth to grow up. He lives on the North Side. He’s been in Chicago for about a year. So really just one valuable lesson.

It says abide. Please don’t ask me why because I don’t know. 

Sometimes you see someone so perfect you have to physically stop them and ask for a picture. This was one of those sometimes. This man’s beard, combined with the fit of those jeans, makes his head look really big. But he has that hipster look going and the beard really does complete it.

I kind of felt like Steve Martin out there, what with all these guys wearing pink. Pink Panther. Get it? He was in that movie. Please laugh.

It’s about time for this post to end. You’re busy, I’m busy, and these goldfish aren’t going to feed themselves (if only!). I’ll leave you with a few bites of an interesting company that my mom works with, The Workshop CoOp. They have nothing to do with men’s fashion.

The company’s mission is to provide women in Guatemala with fair wages and the opportunity for them and their children to become educated. Leslie Thomas, one of the co-founders of the Workshop, was extremely busy with Mother’s Day sales and family and stuff. I did, however, manage to snap a quick pic of her in action. Man, I am too good.

Their main focus is bags like the ones pictured above (and below) but they’ve considered expanding into backpacks. Exciting!
